Lahore, 4th November 2026. Palindrome Research Labs released Agent8088, an Open-source Agent Harness that helps small local language models finish long complex tasks more reliably. It is available now on GitHub at https://github.com/palindrome-rl/AGENT8088.
For small models and long-running complex tasks, the harness often matters more than the model. Small models fail in predictable ways. Their context overflows without warning, their tool calls come out malformed or pick the wrong tool, they say they are done when they are not, and long runs loop or lose their progress. Agent8088 reduces these failure modes with the harness code around the model. Its design is grounded in published research, with references in the project blog.
What Agent8088 does
- Context Management: Agent8088 checks how full the context window is before every call and limits each reply to the room that is left. Older messages are summarized before the window overflows, and constraints you gave earlier are carried over word for word.
- Tool Intelligence: Each request only sees the tools most likely to matter, which keeps the choice small for a small model. Malformed tool calls, such as a broken JSON escape, are repaired, and an unknown tool name gets a clear error.
- Failure Recovery: If the model’s output is cut off, the partial call is never run. If it keeps sending the same call, it is told that the call already ran with the same result and should not be sent again.
- Grounded Execution: Checks are based on what the environment actually returned, not on the model response. Test and build output is parsed into results, named output files must exist, pages are opened in a browser, and a plan stops at its first failed step.
- Verification before Completion: Every run ends with a report that labels all parts of the work as tested, exercised, inspected, unchecked or failed, so a finished message cannot hide what was never checked.
- Safety and Control: Permission prompts, an operating system sandbox with a Docker fallback, and blocks on credential folders and destructive git commands are enforced in code. Plan mode reads only, and waits for your approval before anything changes.
Agent8088 is also a full agent product. It includes 59 built-in tools, 39 skills, sub-agents, memory, web research and document handling, and it connects to the terminal, a web interface, Slack, Discord, Telegram, email and MCP. It works with local and hosted models.

Agent8088 v1.3 is available now under the MIT licence. Installation steps for Windows, macOS and Linux are in the project README. The design is described, with references to the published research behind it, in the project blog.
